Tornadoes, floods hit Great Plains states

At press time, multiple communities in the Great Plains states were recovering from the damages caused by tornadoes and other severe weather on Tuesday (May 24), including several Kansas communities.
ABC News estimated Tuesday’s tornado count to be “about 26.” It also reported that Kansas was among five states hit by tornados. The others included Texas and Oklahoma.
Multiple news agencies reported significant tornado activity in western Kansas, including in Ford, Scott and Hodgeman counties.
The Weather Channel reported one tornado touching down in Dodge City, with two victims suffering serious injuries that required hospitalization. In related news, an Associated Press (AP) story on Wednesday (May 25) reported the Kansas Adjutant General’s Department had issued a statement that also said there were two tornado victims in Ford County, where Dodge City is located, who had suffered severe injuries. The AP also reported the Western Plains Medical Center treating and releasing two people suffering from tornado-related injuries, but suggested it was unclear whether or not they were the same victims referred to by the Adjutant General’s Department.
Ford County also drew attention for “twin” tornadoes that meteorologist Brad Guay spotted. Guay, who reported to CNN that there was brief rotation of three tornadoes at once, photographed the twin storms and posted his picture of them online.
“I’ve never seen that in person, and it’s unusual to have that occur,” CNN quoted Guay as saying.
Baseball-size hail also was reported in connection with the tornadoes.
In related news, one death has been reported following Tuesday’s severe weather. The cause of death was drowning resulting from flash flooding.
