Estudios demuestran trabajar ocho horas debería ser reestructurado

8horas

Study suggests eight-hour workday might need restructuring

By Paula Alzate
A recent study suggests that the typical eight-hour workday – four hours of work, followed by an hour for lunch and then another four hours of work – might not need some restructuring.
Conducted by the Draugiem Group, the study examined people’s work habits and workplace productivity. According to the study, a key to productivity is how workers structure their day. That includes breaks and the balance of work with other pursuits.
The study showed an ideal workday included an average of 53 minutes of work, followed by 15 minutes of rest. Workers with this work-to-rest balance were shown to maintain their focus better and increase their productivity.
A common work period in many countries, the eight-hour workday emerged during the Industrial Revolution in the early 1800s, when companies were commonly requiring employees to put in between 10- and 16-hour workdays. According to a Huffington Post story, Welshman Robert Owen “started a campaign to have people work no more than eight hours per day. His slogan was ‘eight hours (of) labor, eight hours (of) recreation, eight hours (of) rest.’ ”
Although the eight-hour workday has become commonplace, some companies require their employees to put in between nine and 12 hours per day. Regardless of the length of the work shift, however, workers are advised to take breaks every hour to maintain their focus and increase their productivity.
