Para que los niños empiecen a aceptar a los demás en un mundo lleno de gente de diversos orígenes, es importante que los padres les enseñen en casa a que estén abiertos a conocer a otros que quizás no se vean iguales o que piensan como ellos.
Los siguientes son algunos consejos para ayudarle a tratar el tema de diversidad con sus hijos y ayudarles a aplicarla en su vida cotidiana:
* Enseñe a sus hijos acerca de sus antecedentes familiares: Mostrarles la diversidad de su propia herencia les ayudará a entender que no todo el mundo viene de los mismos antecedentes.
* Abra su círculo social: Cuando sus hijos se dan cuenta de que no sólo está interactuando con el mismo tipo de gente, ellos van a entender que es importante tener la mente abierta y aceptar a los demás.
* Escuche a sus hijos y responda: De acuerdo con el Dr. Christopher Metzler, un experto en la diversidad y la inclusión, los niños aprenden escuchando; por lo tanto, cuando los niños preguntan sobre las diferencias, es importante que los padres escuchen y respondan utilizando el lenguaje apropiado.
* No tenga miedo de hablar sobre temas sensibles: la política y la religión que se discuten no sólo les ayudará a ampliar sus conocimientos, sino también ayudarles a ver diferentes puntos de vista. Incentívelos a expresar lo que piensan, pero siempre de una manera respetuosa.
How to teach your children to accept others

In order for kids to start accepting others in a world filled with people of various backgrounds, it’s important that parents teach them at home about being open to meeting others who might not look or think like them.
The following are some tips to help you discuss diversity with your kids and help them apply diversity in their daily lives:
*Teach your kids about your family background: Showing them the diversity of their own heritage will help them understand that not everyone comes from the same background.
*Open your social circle: When your children realize that you’re not only interacting with the same type of people, they’ll understand it’s O.K. to be open-minded and accept others.
*Listen to your children and respond: According to Dr. Christopher Metzler, an expert in diversity and inclusion, kids learn by listening; therefore, when children ask about differences, it’s important for parents to listen and respond using the appropriate language.
*Don’t be afraid to discuss sensitive topics: Discussing politics and religion will not only help them expand their knowledge, but also help them see different points of view. Encourage them to express what they think, but always in a respectful manner.
