El área de Kansas City está enviando algo de ayuda a los peruanos que han sufrido debido a las recientes fuertes lluvias e inundaciones.
El domingo (2 de abril), se llevó a cabo el evento KC Let’s Help Peru (KC Ayudemos a Perú) en La Terraza Bar & Grill en Shawnee Mission, Kan., para ayudar con los esfuerzos de socorro. Julio Fleharty ayudó a organizar el evento.
“Para mí, este evento, fue muy importante pues es para apoyar al pueblo del Perú que fue afectado por las tormentas”, dijo Fleharty, un nativo de Lima, Perú.
Muchas personas ayudaron a Fleharty durante el evento, ya sea ofreciendo voluntariamente su tiempo o contribuyendo monetariamente.
“Realmente quiero agradecer especialmente a mis amigos”, declaró Fleharty. “Realmente hicieron este evento posible. También quiero agradecer a la comunidad latina y a todos los que vinieron”.
Varias personas donaron arte o comida para apoyar la causa. También se contactó a las empresas locales para que dieran apoyo o contribuciones. Se donaron tarjetas de regalo, entradas y arte. Algunos de los donadores incluyen al equipo de fútbol Sporting Kansas City, el restaurante Casa Latina, La Terraza, Delicias Peruanas y El Payaso Carmelito.
“Recaudamos alrededor de $ 2,400 – y este fue el primer recaudador de fondos de este tamaño que hemos hecho”, dijo Fleharty.
Las ganancias serán enviadas a Perú, donde un individuo estará a cargo de entregar las donaciones. Jackelyn Flores Peña y sus estudiantes de ingeniería civil de Huancavelica, Perú, repartirán los ingresos a los de las zonas afectadas.
“Niños, adultos y animales recibirán la ayuda que necesitan”, dijo Fleharty. “El ejército peruano también ayudará con la dispersión de donaciones a las zonas afectadas”.

KC resident helps raise funds for Peru

The Kansas City area is sending some aid to help Peruvians who’ve suffered from recent heavy rains and flooding.
On Sunday (April 2), KC Let’s Help Peru was held at the La Terraza Bar & Grill in Shawnee Mission, Kan., to help with relief efforts. July Fleharty helped mobilize the event.
“This event, for me, was very important to help support the people of Peru who were affected by the storms,” said Fleharty a Lima, Peru, native.
Many individuals helped Fleharty during the event, whether by volunteering their time or contributing monetarily.
“I really want to especially thank my friends,” Fleharty stated. “They truly made this event possible. I also want to thank the Latino community and everyone who came.”
Several people donated art or food to support the cause. Local companies also were contacted to help lend support or contributions. Gift cards, tickets and art were donated. Those who donated included the soccer team Sporting Kansas City, Casa Latina Restaurant, La Terraza, Delicias Peruanas and El Paaso Carmelito.
“We raised about $2,400 – and this was the first fundraiser of this size that we’ve done,” Fleharty said.
The proceeds will be sent to Peru, where an individual will be in charge of handing out the donations. Jackelyn Flores Pena (Flores Peña in Spanish) and her civil engineering students of Huancavelica, Peru, will disperse the proceeds to those in the affected zones.
“Kids, adults and animals will be receiving the help they need,” Fleharty said. “The Peruvian army will also help with the dispersal of donations to the affected areas.”
