Alejandro Gonzalez found his profession early in life.
The Kansas City area resident and founder and owner of Gonzalez Construction started working in construction at age 9, helping his grandfather. Eventually, he settled in Columbia, Mo., for a while, where he worked with an uncle.
“Later on, I found out that the market in Kansas City was good and I decided to move here,” Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez started working in the area as an employee. In 2008, he launched his business.
“I worked in the union for 14-16 years,” he said. “During that time, I learned a lot. I saw the market – and that helped me to start my own business.”
Once he knew he was ready, Gonzalez took on projects on his own. His first projects were in residential construction.
“When I started working on residential projects, things started getting better,” Gonzalez said.
Through some research, Gonzalez learned he could take on bigger projects with the city of Kansas City, Mo.
“I studied a lot, and my wife was helping me to research,” he said. “Then, I got a minority certificate – and from there, I started this journey.”
Since receiving his minority certificate, Gonzalez has worked on various government projects.
“Now, I look for work focused on minorities because that help us (Hispanics) to grow,” he said.
As an entrepreneur, Gonzalez encourages all area entrepreneurs to keep working toward their goals.
“We have a lot of opportunities in this country, and we should take advantage of all of them,” he said. “I encourage people to do their homework, get educated and learn every day.”

Alejandro González encontró su profesión a temprana edad.
El residente del área de Kansas City que es fundador y propietario de Gonzalez Construction comenzó a trabajar en la construcción a los 9 años, ayudando a su abuelo. Eventualmente, se estableció en Columbia, Missouri, por un tiempo, donde trabajó con un tío.
“Más tarde, descubrí que el mercado en Kansas City era bueno y decidí mudarme aquí,” indico González.
González comenzó a trabajar en el área como empleado. En 2008, lanzó su negocio.
“Trabajé en la unión por más de 14 años,” indicó. “Durante ese tiempo, aprendí mucho. Vi el mercado y eso me ayudó a comenzar mi propio negocio.”
Una vez que supo que estaba listo, González se encargó de los proyectos por sí mismo. Sus primeros proyectos fueron en construcción residencial.
“Cuando comencé a trabajar en proyectos residenciales, las cosas empezaron a mejorar,” mencionó González.
A través de algunas investigaciones, González descubrió que podría encargarse de proyectos más grandes con la ciudad de Kansas City, Mo.
“Estudié mucho y mi esposa me ayudó a investigar,” dijo. “Entonces, obtuve un certificado de minoría y desde allí comencé este viaje”.
Desde que recibió su certificado de minoría, González ha trabajado en varios proyectos del gobierno.
“Ahora busco trabajo centrado en las minorías porque eso nos ayuda a nosotros (los hispanos) a crecer,” menciono.
Como emprendedor, González alienta a todos los empresarios del área a seguir trabajando para alcanzar sus metas.
“Tenemos muchas oportunidades en este país, y debemos aprovecharlas a todas,” indico. “Anim a las personas a hacer su tarea, educarse y aprender todos los días”.
