If you’re wanting an activity that’s challenging and fun for your children, then take them to see “Jack and the Bean Magico.”
Running through May 20 at The Coterie Theater in Kansas City, Mo., the production is a magical bilingual play that will take your children on a trip into the classic fairytale “Jack and the Beanstalk.”
At 60 minutes, the play is briskly paced, so children won’t get bored. Its interactive nature also will keep their interest. The children are encouraged to sit on the floor around the stage, and the actors invite children and adults to participate in the action. For instance, the children are asked to assist Jack when he climbs the beanstalk to visit the giant’s rich, fertile land.
What’s more, the play is educational. Because it’s bilingual, children can learn new words in Spanish or English.
If you need further convincing to see “Jack and the Bean Magico,” then consider this: The play is a hit with parents and children.
Maria Rodriguez, a Kansas City, Kan., resident, is among the parents who’ve been impressed. Rodriguez likes how it encourages children to be imaginative.
“Children learn about farming and they have fun at the same time,” she commented. “One of the things that I like the most is that the play is bilingual, so children can pick up a few new words.”
For Rodriguez, her favorite part was when Jack hid from the giant because of the children’s reactions.
“The kids were pretending to be bugs and they were supposed to stay quiet, but they didn’t,” she said. “They got quiet for a little bit. Then, they started to yell to the giant, ‘Jack is here, Jack is here.’ Then, the others would join in and … point out where he was hiding. It was a fun experience and I totally recommend it.”
Children have described the play as fun and exciting as they’ve left the theater. Two young theatergoers, Sofia and Jacob, described it as “a lot of fun.”
“Jack is my favorite,” Jacob said.
There are a few other perks to seeing the play. Everyone who goes gets a special treat – a “magic bean” they receive as they’re leaving the theater. In addition, Friday nights are family fun nights, where children can get an autographs and pictures with cast members.
So, parents, take your children to see “Jack and the Bean Magico.” They’ll get to have an hour of interactive, educational fun. And you’ll probably enjoy it, too.
