With smiles on their faces, the kids on the team Soccer Nation Academy 05 recently received a $10,000 check from the Sprint Corp. to help fund their trip to Frisco, Texas, to play in the 13-and-under division at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships.
Held in one of the conference rooms at City Hall in Kansas City, Kan., the presentation started with the players entering the room as their families chanted, “Soccer Nation.” The presentation also included a speech by Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kan., Mayor/CEO David Alvey, who highlighted the teamwork shown to achieve great goals. Alberto Lorente, Sprint multicultural marketing director, also gave a brief speech before handing the check to the coaches.
Receiving support from Sprint isn’t new to Soccer Nation KC, the Kansas City, Kan., academy where the 13-and-under team and other youth soccer teams are based. Ramiro Crespo, Sprint multicultural web and digital strategy lead, said the telecommunications company has assisted Soccer Nation KC for two years. Donating the money is one way to show that Sprint is there for the kids, according to Crespo.
“We want them to know we’re in this for the long haul,” he said.
Raul “El Padrino” Villegas, who owns Soccer Nation KC and coaches there, thanked Sprint for its support, along with the mayor and the parents.
“This is proof that if you work hard everything is possible,” Villegas said in a brief speech before the children visited the mayor/CEO’s office.
For Villegas, going to nationals is the result of the passion, hard work and dedication of the kids; the support of their parents; and the perseverance to succeed by everyone involved.
“The energy and passion, you can see it on the field,” he said.
No doubt, the players will take that energy to Texas to play in the national tournament. The competition will run July 23-29.
Soccer Nation recibe $10,000 de Sprint para cubrir parte del viaje a los Nacionales
Con sonrisas en sus rostros, los niños del equipo Soccer Nation Academy 05 recientemente recibieron un cheque de $10,000 de parte de Sprint Corp. para ayudar a cubrir los gastos del viaje a Frisco, Texas, donde jugarán en la división sub-13 en el Campeonato Nacional de Fútbol Juvenil.
La presentación, celebrada en una de las salas de conferencia del edificio del Municipio en Kansas City, Kan., comenzó con los jugadores entrando mientras sus familias coreaban “Soccer Nation.” La presentación también incluyó un discurso por el alcalde del Gobierno Unificado del Condado Wyandotte/Kansas City, Kan. David Alvey, quien resaltó el trabajo en equipo demostrado para lograr grandes objetivos. Alberto Lorente, director de marketing multicultural de Sprint, también dio un breve discurso antes de darles el cheque a los entrenadores.

Para Villegas, participar de las nacionales es el resultado de la pasión, trabajo duro y dedicación de los niños, el apoyo de los padres, y la perseverancia para alcanzar el éxito de todos los que forman parte del equipo.
“La energía y la pasión se puede ver en el campo,” dijo.
Sin duda, los jugadores llevarán esa energía a Texas cuando jueguen el campeonato nacional. La competición será de Julio 23 al 29.
