On Good Friday (April 19), the All Saints Catholic Church hosted its annual Via Crucis—a tradition that relives and reenacts the passion and death of Jesus Christ.
The event drew a crowd of over 100 people and started at 3 p.m. The actors started their reenactment at the Kansas City, Kansas parish parking lot and, followed by the crowd, recreated Jesus’ path carrying the cross for a few blocks. The crucifixion reenactment took place at the top of an open field.
Maricarmen Avila, one of the organizers of the event since its inception in 2015, said that the Via Crucis would not be possible if it were not for the members of the parish that help and participate in it.
“I feel like this year has been one of the best,” she said. “I feel satisfied with how it came together.”
The actors rehearsed for two months. Avila said that they will have a meeting to evaluate how the event turned out and, in that way, be able to improve for next year.
“The few comments I’ve heard so far have been positive,” she said. “They felt (the reenactment) more real, which is ultimately what we want.”
Parroquia de Todos los Santos organiza Vía Crucis
El Viernes Santo (19 de abril), la Parroquia de Todos los Santos organizó su Vía Crucis anual, una tradición que revive y recrea la pasión y muerte de Jesucristo.
El evento atrajo a una multitud de más de 100 personas y comenzó a las 3 p.m. Los actores comenzaron su recreación en el estacionamiento de la parroquia de Kansas City, Kansas y, seguidos por la multitud, recrearon el camino de Jesús cargando la cruz por unas pocas cuadras. La recreación de la crucifixión tuvo lugar en la parte superior de un campo abierto.
Maricarmen Ávila, una de las organizadoras del evento desde sus inicios en 2015, dijo que el Vía Crucis no sería posible si no fuera por los miembros de la parroquia que ayudan y participan en el mismo.
“Siento que este año ha sido uno de los mejores”, dijo. “Me siento satisfecha con lo que sucedió”.
Los actores ensayaron por dos meses. Ávila dijo que pronto tendrán una reunión para cómo resultó el evento y, de esa manera, poder mejorar para el próximo año.
“Los pocos comentarios que he escuchado han sido positivos”, dijo. “Lo sintieron más real, que es lo que queremos”.
