Barely a week since a man shot five people in Cleveland, Texas, another mass shooting is making headlines.
On May 6, a gunman “stepped out of a silver sedan and started shooting people” at an outlet mall in Allen, Texas, killing eight and injuring seven others, as reported by the Associated Press and other media outlets. The gunman was later killed by a police officer, authorities said.
The fatalities included two elementary school students, both sisters; three Korean-Americans, a husband, wife and child; a graduate student from India, who also was an engineer; and a 20-year-old security guard. No information had been released as of this writing about the eighth person who died.
“You have prayed for an answer, you have begged for an answer. The solution is staring you in the face,” Texas state Rep. Gene Wu said, according to CNN. “We value things over people. At some point, the people blocking the laws that could help prevent these type of tragedies – at some point, they take ownership of some of these tragedies.”
Authorities said the shooter was wearing an insignia they believe might be associated with extremists groups.
“Investigators have unearthed an extensive social media presence, including neo-Nazi and White supremacist-related posts and images,” CNN reported.
This shooting comes roughly a week after a man fatally shot five people in Cleveland, Texas, after a neighbor had asked him to stop firing his weapon while a baby slept.
The massacre in Allen is the second-deadliest so far this year, behind the January shooting in Monterey Park, California, that left 11 people dead.
