Pope Francis recently announced that the Catholic Church would begin blessing same-sex couples.
The decision was formalized through a document issued by the Vatican. The document states that those seeking God’s love and mercy should not be subjected to exhaustive moral examination to receive it. As The Associated Press and other media outlets reported, the document states that the Catholic Church considers marriage a sacrament between a man and a woman, but the possibility of blessing unions of homosexual couples under certain circumstances is possible.
To some people, this is considered a change within the Catholic Church, which had long opposed blessing same-sex unions on the grounds that God couldn’t bless a lifestyle the church considered sinful. The new document is believed to offer a more compassionate and less restrictive perspective, promoting the idea that pursuing a transcendent relationship with God shouldn’t be hindered by prior judgments. As it has been reported, it stresses moving away from judging others and insists that any individuals in “irregular” unions should still be able to receive God’s love and/or mercy.
For Kansas City, Kansas, resident Pedro Martinez, this change in the Catholic Church is important.
“I think that this change just shows how our religion is evolving and that it is important to consider others, regardless of their sexual orientation,” Martinez said.

El Papa Francisco anunció recientemente que la Iglesia Católica comenzaría a bendecir a las parejas del mismo sexo.
