Some Greater Kansas City area organizations are helping dispel and/or debunk the worries and fears many immigrants and their families have in light of recent events resulting from President Trump’s executive orders.
One of those organizations is Guadalupe Centers Inc. (GCI).
A Kansas City, Missouri-based nonprofit that works with Latino communities across the area, GCI has reaffirmed its commitment to the Hispanic and immigrant communities by offering clear messaging.
“As our community faces an uncertain future, our top priority remains to empower individuals and families with the knowledge and resources they need,” Jesse Pedraza, GCI chief marketing officer, stated via email. “This includes educating individuals and communities about their rights so they are prepared for the future.”
GCI displayed that commitment last week, when news spread of U.S. Department of Homeland Security officers showing up at Guadalupe Centers Elementary School. Soon after, the school released a statement clarifying the situation to dissuade any community fears or concerns.
“We can confirm that this was an isolated incident,” read the statement, released hours after the rumors had begun. “It was not a raid of any kind, and the situation posed no threat to our students.”
The statement also explained the school activated safety protocols and was monitoring the situation, but at no point were any students or staff members in danger.
For Pedraza, GCI’s focus “remains on educating our community, and collaborating with other community organizations (such as AIRR KC) to ensure everyone understands their rights and resources,” he stated.
“We stay committed to navigating these developments thoughtfully and responsibly, keeping our community informed and empowered as things develop,” Pedraza wrote.

Algunas organizaciones del área metropolitana de Kansas City están ayudando a disipar y/o desacreditar las preocupaciones y temores que tienen muchos inmigrantes y sus familias a la luz de los recientes acontecimientos resultantes de las órdenes ejecutivas del presidente Trump.
Una de esas organizaciones es Guadalupe Centers Inc. (GCI).
GCI, una organización sin fines de lucro con sede en Kansas City, Missouri, que trabaja con comunidades latinas en toda el área, ha reafirmado su compromiso con las comunidades hispanas e inmigrantes al ofrecer mensajes claros.
“Mientras nuestra comunidad enfrenta un futuro incierto, nuestra principal prioridad sigue siendo empoderar a las personas y las familias con el conocimiento y los recursos que necesitan”, afirmó por correo electrónico Jesse Pedraza, director de marketing de GCI. “Esto incluye educar a las personas y las comunidades sobre sus derechos para que estén preparados para el futuro”.
GCI demostró ese compromiso la semana pasada, cuando se difundió la noticia de que agentes del Departamento de Seguridad Nacional se habían presentado en la escuela primaria Guadalupe Centers. Poco después, la escuela emitió un comunicado aclarando la situación para disuadir cualquier temor o preocupación de la comunidad.
“Podemos confirmar que se trató de un incidente aislado”, se leía en el comunicado, publicado horas después de que comenzaran los rumores. “No fue una redada de ningún tipo y la situación no representó una amenaza para nuestros estudiantes”.
El comunicado también explicó que la escuela activó los protocolos de seguridad y estaba monitoreando la situación, pero en ningún momento hubo estudiantes o miembros del personal en peligro.
Para Pedraza, el enfoque de GCI “sigue siendo educar a nuestra comunidad y colaborar con otras organizaciones comunitarias (como AIRR KC) para garantizar que todos comprendan sus derechos y recursos”, afirmó.
“Seguimos comprometidos a abordar estos acontecimientos de manera reflexiva y responsable, manteniendo a nuestra comunidad informada y empoderada a medida que se desarrollan las cosas”, escribió.
