A medida que el área de Kansas City transita de una ciudad “flyover” a un centro de crecimiento e innovación laboral, el presidente de Young Latino Professionals (YLP), Mike López, tiene una visión de conectar a los profesionales latinos altamente calificados del área con emocionantes oportunidades de trabajo.
López cree que los programas y la red profesional que YLP está construyendo aumentará la concientización y conectará a los ejecutivos del área con los líderes latinos con potencial.
“Este es un grupo de jóvenes profesionales que buscan mejorar sus carreras por derecho propio”, dijo. “Pero (tener talentosos empleados latinos) también agregará más valor a una organización de lo que (un ejecutivo) pensaría que era posible”.
Para conectar ejecutivos con profesionales latinos, YLP está coordinando su primer C-Suite: Navegue a la Cima, que invitará a los ejecutivos de corporaciones locales o nacionales para una reunión de almuerzo con miembros de YLP.
“No es un evento de conferencia”, dijo López. “Queremos saber lo que dicen los directores ejecutivos sobre sus carreras. Pero esperamos que estén interesados en lo que tenemos que decir y hacer preguntas “.
López también cree en apoyar a las generaciones latinas más jóvenes en la escuela para ayudarles a construir carreras exitosas. YLP contribuye dinero de becas al Fondo de Desarrollo Hispano y se esforzará por enviar latinos en edad escolar a conferencias de enriquecimiento en todo el país.
“La filantropía ha estado cerca de mi corazón”, dijo López. “El espíritu emprendedor y la trayectoria profesional (…) son importantes para mí, pero devolver a la comunidad es importante. En un mundo perfecto, hemos establecido nuestras carreras y desplazándonos como jóvenes latinos – y debemos ayudar a los más jóvenes que nosotros y menos afortunados de cualquier manera que podamos “.

YLP president shares his vision for the organization

As the Kansas City area transitions from a “flyover” city to a hub for job growth and innovation, Young Latino Professionals (YLP) President Mike Lopez has a vision of connecting the area’s highly skilled Latino professionals with exciting, meaningful job opportunities.
Lopez believes the programs and professional network that YLP is building will raise awareness and connect area executives with “up and coming” Latino leaders.
“This is a group of young professionals who are looking to improve their careers in their own right,” he said. “But (having talented Latino employees) will also add more value to an organization than (an executive) would think to be possible.”
To connect executives with Latino professionals, YLP is coordinating its first-ever C-Suite: Navigate to the Top series, which will invite C suite executives from local or national corporations for a lunch meeting with YLP members.
“It’s not a talk-down event,” Lopez said. “We certainly want to hear about what (the CEOs) have to say about their careers…. But we hope that they will be interested in what we have to say and ask questions.”
Lopez also believes in supporting younger Latino generations in school to help them build successful careers. YLP contributes scholarship money to the Hispanic Development Fund and will strive to send high school-aged Latinos to enrichment conferences around the country.
“Philanthropy has been close to my heart,” Lopez said. “The entrepreneurial spirit and the career path … (are) important for me, but giving back to the community has become important. In a perfect world, we have established our careers and running with it as young Latinos – and we should help those younger than us and less fortunate in any way that we can.”
