Welcome tourists! In this edition, we will talk about Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, which was considered the Venice of the East. Its name means ”The City of Angels”. The city was founded in 1782 and has a population close to 8 million residents, while the metropolitan area of Bangkok exceeds 12 million residents.
Some of the main attractions of Bangkok are the great variety of Buddhist temples, many of them quite exotic, which speak of the deep-rooted Buddhist history of all of Thailand. Currently, it has more than 400 Buddhist temples in operation. Do not let a large number of residents overwhelm you, the vast majority of Thais are quite hospitable, so they will look for ways to make you feel comfortable at all times and places.
Round flights from Kansas to Bangkok have an average price of $900 with at least 2 layovers. The best way to get around the city is in the Skytrain, which is an elevated train that will help you not suffer from the classic traffic jams during peak hours. You can buy tickets ranging from $.50 to $1.50 or a pass for the whole day at $4.30. There also is a metro line and boats that will allow you to visit places of interest near the river for less than $1. Taxis are also a good option to get around, just keep in mind that you must tell the taxi driver to use the taximeter or to agree on the fare of your trip before starting your trip.
When it comes to accommodation, if your plan is to go backpacking you will find hostels starting from $10 a night. You will also find 3-star hotels for $30 a night. If your plan is to enjoy the stay at the hotel, you can also find 5-star hotels with rooms for $180 per night. The cuisine of the city is highly appreciated and combines many of the main ingredients that you will find in other Asian countries such as rice and soybeans. In general, the food is quite cheap in this city. You can eat for less than $20 in most mid-range restaurants, and you can even enjoy a buffet lunch or dinner in a tower 304 meters high in the Baiyoke Sky Hotel for less than $30. There you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city while enjoying your food and cruises with food, music and traditional dances for about $40.

Royal Palace is an architectural ensemble of buildings that served as the real headquarters for more than 200 years. Here you can find the Wat Phra Kaew temple, where the Emerald Buddha is found. Carved in jade in the 15th century and with only 45 centimeters, it is the most valuable and venerated temple in Thailand. Keep in mind that you can not enter with shorts or shirts without sleeves. Wat Pho, is a Buddhist temple that has the largest reclining Buddha in Thailand, 46 meters long and 15 meters high and covered in gold leaf. Due to the proximity to the Royal Palace, it is recommended to make your visit the same day. Also here is a traditional Thai medicine center, so you can enjoy a relaxing Thai massage pretty cheap. The admission fee is $3 and, like the Royal Palace, you must arrive by boat.
Wat Arun is one of the most famous and well-known Buddhist temples in all of Thailand. With 82 meters of height, the Arun tower is the highest of all Bangkok. The style of the temple is Khmer and it is very similar to the temples of Cambodia, on the banks of the temple, there are 4 smaller towers, all decorated with Chinese porcelain. From the central tower, you can get a spectacular view of the river and the Wat Pho temples and the Royal Palace which are all very close. The admission fee is $1.50, try to visit it the same day you visit the Royal Palace and Wat Pho.
Muay Thai is one of the most spectacular contact sports that exist, so you should take the opportunity to go watch it. The admission fee for this type of fights has an average price of $60. This martial art has been around for 2,000 years and for more than 800 years it has been taught to soldiers for the defense of the country.
Walk in the canals. As I mentioned at the beginning of the article, Bangkok was considered the Venice of the East due to its innumerable amount of canals that surrounded the entire city. Many of which have been eliminated to build in the streets, but they still have some of them. The most traditional, so giving a boat tour for them will be a beautiful experience in your visit. It will be a nice way to know how people who are not yet reached by the modernity of the city. You can hire a tour of 1 or 2 hours, with a price of around $40 per person.

Bienvenidos turistas, en esta edición nos toca hablar de la capital de Tailandia, que por un tiempo fue considerada la Venecia del este y que el significado de su nombre es “La ciudad de los ángeles”, por supuesto nos referimos a Bangkok, Tailandia. Ciudad que fue en 1782 y que tiene una población cercana a los 8 millones de habitantes, mientras que su zona metropolitana el gran Bangkok rebasa los 12 millones de habitantes.
Algunos de los principales atractivos de Bangkok es su gran variedad de templos budistas, muchos de ellos bastante exóticos, que hablan de la arraigada historia Budista de todo Tailandia, actualmente se cuenta con más de 400 templos budistas en funcionamiento. No dejes que la gran cantidad de habitantes te abrume, en su gran mayoría los Tailandeses son bastante hospitalarios, por lo que buscarán la manera de hacerte sentir cómodo en todo momento y lugar.
Los vuelos redondos de Kansas a Bangkok tienen un costo promedio de $900 con al menos 2 escalas. En cuanto a hospedaje se trata, si tu plan es el de irte de mochilero por una de las ciudades más famosas en el mundo para esto, podrás encontrar hostales desde $10 la noche, o bien podrás encontrar hoteles 3 estrellas por $30 la noche, si tu plan es el de disfrutar de tu estancia en el hotel también podrás encontrar hoteles 5 estrellas con habitaciones por $180 la noche. La gastronomía de la ciudad es bastante apreciada y combina muchos de los principales ingredientes que encontrarás en otros países asiáticos como el arroz y la soya. En general la comida es bastante económica en esta ciudad, podrás comer por menos de $20 en la mayoría de restaurantes de gama media, e incluso podrás disfrutar de una comida o cena tipo buffet en una torre de 304 metros de altura en el hotel Baiyoke Sky Hotel por menos de $30 la noche, así que podrás disfrutar de una hermosa vista de la ciudad mientras disfrutas de tus alimentos, existen también compañías que ofrecen cruceros con comida, música y bailes tradicionales por unos $40.
Algunos de los lugares que no deberás perderte en tu viaje te los describo a continuación:
Palacio Real, es un conjunto arquitectónico de edificios que fungieron como sede real por más de 200 años. Aquí podrás encontrar el templo Wat Phra Kaew, en donde se encuentra el Buda de Esmeralda, que tallado en jade en el siglo XV y con sólo 45 centímetros de altura es el más valioso y venerado de todo Tailandia. Ten en consideración que no podrás ingresar con shorts o camisetas sin mangas, aunque si no tienes contemplado llevar ropa adecuada puedes recibir prendas que te prestan en la entrada, también considera que toda sala donde se encuentre la imagen de Buda deberás entrar sin zapatos. El costo de entrada es de $15 y deberás tomar un barco para llegar hasta ahí.
Wat Pho, es un templo budista que cuenta con el Buda reclinado más grande de todo Tailandia, con 46 metros de largo y 15 metros de altura y que está recubierto en pan de oro. Debido a la cercanía con el Palacio Real se recomienda hacer su visita el mismo día, además aquí mismo se encuentra un centro de medicina tailandesa tradicional, por lo que podrás disfrutar de un relajante masaje tailandés de manera bastante económica. El costo de entrada es de $3 y al igual que al Palacio Real se deberá llegar en barco.
Wat Arun, es uno de los templos budistas más famosos y conocidos de todo Tailandia. Con 82 metros de altura la torre Arun es la más alta de todo Bangkok. El estilo del templo es Khmer y hace mucha similitud con los templos de Camboya, en las orillas de templo se encuentran 4 torres más pequeñas todas ellas decoradas con porcelana china. Desde la torre central podrás obtener una espectacular vista del río y los templos Wat Pho y del Palacio Real que todos ellos se encuentran muy cerca. El costo de entrada es de $1.50, intenta visitarlo el mismo día que visites el Palacio Real y el Wat Pho.
Muay Thai, este es uno de los deportes de contacto más espectaculares que existen, por lo que si eres fanático de este tipo de deportes deberás aprovechar la oportunidad de ir a una exhibición de este tipo, los costos de entrada a este tipo de peleas tienen un costo promedio de $60. Este arte marcial lleva cerca de 2,000 años de existir y desde hace más de 800 años ha sido enseñado a los soldados para la defensa del país.
Paseo en canales, como lo mencioné al inicio del artículo, Bangkok fue considerada la Venecia del Este debido a su innumerable cantidad de canales que rodeaban a toda la ciudad, de los cuales muchos han sido eliminados para construirse en ellos calles para transitar, pero aún quedan algunos de ellos, lo más tradicionales, por lo que dar un recorrido en bote por ellos será una bella experiencia en tu visita, será una linda forma de conocer cómo viven las personas que aún no son alcanzadas por la modernidad de la ciudad. Podrás contratar un recorrido de 1 o 2 horas, con un costo de alrededor de $40 por persona.
Recuerda que la moneda oficial de Tailandia es el Baht y que al sólo tener una zona bastante moderna en la ciudad, muchos sitios no aceptarán ni tarjeta de crédito ni dólares como moneda de cambio, por lo que te recomiendo lleves el suficiente efectivo en su moneda o busques lugares donde cambiar más antes de partir a la aventura y consigas que te lo cambien a un precio menos justo.
