Kansas City, Missouri, native Alexis Ibarra has a chance to play against, and with, some of America’s best young soccer players.
The senior at Guadalupe Centers High School has been invited to participate as a midfielder on the West team in this year’s All-American High School Soccer Game, scheduled for Dec. 11 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Athletes were asked to submit player profiles by Thursday (Sept. 30), the event website states.
“They look at your stats and then they decide if you get to play in the All-American game,” Ibarra said recently. “I’m so happy and excited because, if I get selected, I can showcase my talent.”
Being invited to participate “is one of the biggest achievements in my soccer life,” Ibarra said. Ibarra, whose “soccer life” started at age 4, attributes that achievement in part to the support he received from his club team, Unified FC.
“Their support was great,” he said. “I will always thank them.”
There is more to Ibarra’s life, of course, than soccer. His other pursuits include video games. Lately, he has started reading, he said.
“I started reading during the pandemic,” Ibarra said. “One of my favorite movies is (in the) Harry Potter (series), so I started reading that.”
In addition, Ibarra has an interest in business. He plans to study business administration in college.
“I don’t know which school I’m going to,” Ibarra said. “I still need to think about it.”
Ibarra has a message he wants to share with future soccer players: Do not be scared, practice and utilize the support they have around them.
“I just want to emphasize that (it) is important that soccer players see the support they have around them and utilize it,” he said.
“No sé a qué universidad iré”, dijo Ibarra.
