Get Ready for Spring and Summer with WyCo Parks and Recreation Activities!

The weather is getting warmer and the days are getting longer – it’s time to get outside and enjoy the sunshine – and Wyandotte County Parks & Recreation is here to help!

Wyandotte Parks & Rec has just published its Spring & Summer Parks & Recreation Guide, which is a comprehensive guide to all of its activities and amenities throughout the County. Whether you’re looking for a quiet spot to fish, a game of basketball or golf, or if you want to learn some new arts and crafts, you can find it in the new Summer Guide. Some of the things you can find in the Summer Guide include:
*A complete listing of Wyandotte County Community Centers and the amenities at each facility.
— Want to reserve a Community Center? Call (913) 573-8327 to check on availability or to get more information.
— Parks & Rec is always looking for new, exciting classes for its community centers! If you are interested in teaching a class at any of WyCo’s community centers, contact Shelly Burnett at (913) 573-8329.
*Rental hall information
— These halls are great for wedding receptions, family reunions or business meetings. For more information call (913) 573-8327.
*Fishing and Boating information -fishing and boating season is NOW through November 30th!
*Shelter information – the guide contains a complete list of shelters, including information on which shelters have which amenities.
*Information on activities and sports – these include spray parks, youth summer activities, basketball play and tournament, plus crafts for adults such as quilting and ceramics and much, much more!

And now, Wyandotte County residents have a new way to sign up and pay for Parks & Rec activities, called CIVICREC®. CIVICREC® is a new mobile-friendly, digital platform that gives Wyandotte County residents easier access to activities and programs, plus more convenient online registration and payment options. REMINDER – Report Your At-Home COVID Test Results – Help the Community Track COVID!
Don’t forget to report the results of your at-home COVID-19 tests – especially if they are positive! This helps the Unified Government Public Health Department get an accurate picture of how much COVID spread we have in the community – and that helps protect everyone in the community!

Here are details on upcoming events in our community:
*Cross-Lines Community Outreach at 646 South 7th Street is providing free COVID testing and/or vaccinations every Monday through the end of May. Hours are Mondays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Booster shots are available for those age 12 and older. No appointment needed. Now offering Rapid Antigen COVID testing in addition to PCR COVID testing.
*Free COVID-19 testing is now available at the Kansas City Area Transit Authority (KCATA) location at 849 N. 47th Street in KCK (47th and State Avenue). These are free, PCR tests. Schedule your appointment at www.curative.com.
*The Youth Empowerment Services with the UGPHD is hosting a baby shower for teen parents (those who are 22 and younger who are pregnant or parenting a child under one year of age). The event is Wednesday, April 27th from 1-3 p.m. at the Quindaro Community Center, 2726 Brown Avenue, KCK. There will be information, giveaways, raffles and more!
