In honor of Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14), Dos Mundos recently launched a contest searching for the best love story in the community.
The winner was the story submitted by Kansas City area resident Marisol Alcantara.
Alcantara arrived in Kansas in 2005. She got pregnant at 25.
“The father didn’t want anything to do with us once he found out I was having a girl,” Alcantara recounted. “I thought I could never find love after that. I thought nobody would want me with a kid.”
With support from her mother and brother, Alcantara kept going and raised her daughter. In 2008, she met her now-husband, who immediately got along with Alcantara’s daughter.
“We met thanks to my mom,” she said. “My mom and his mom were friends and they introduced us. Fate gave me a chance to try my luck (at love) again, and he had an instant connection with my daughter (so strong) that, to this day, nobody doubts they aren’t related by blood.”
Now celebrating 15 years together, Alcantara said they’re more in love than ever. In 2013, their daughter was born. They finally married in 2018.
“I’m thankful to God for these 15 years,” she said.
The two have had their ups and downs, Alcantara said. She cites respect and communication as the key to their successful relationship. As an example, she cites events related to Feb. 14, 2022, when Alcantara was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She underwent surgery the next day, and her husband was there for her every step of the way.
“He was there holding my hand, helping me keep being positive before the results of it came out,” she recounted. “Luckily, the cancer wasn’t metastasized and it stayed inside the tumor.”
The surgery worked. Recovering was difficult, but her husband was always by her side, Alcantara said.
Alcantara’s advice to other couples and everyone who reads this is to take advantage of the time we have on Earth.
“My message is that we don’t waste the most precious gift life offers us, which is time,” she said.
Marisol Alcántara gana concurso de mejor historia de amor
En honor al Día de San Valentín (14 de febrero), Dos Mundos lanzó un concurso en busca de la mejor historia de amor de la comunidad.
El ganador fue el relato presentado por Marisol Alcántara, residente del área de Kansas City.
Alcántara llegó a Kansas en 2005. Quedó embarazada a los 25 años.
“El padre no quería tener nada que ver con nosotros una vez que supo que iba a tener una niña”, relató ella. “Pensé que nunca podría encontrar el amor después de eso. Pensé que nadie me querría con un niño”.
Con el apoyo de su madre y su hermano, Alcántara siguió adelante y crió a su hija. En 2008 conoció a su ahora esposo, quien inmediatamente se llevó bien con su hija.
“Nos conocimos gracias a mi mamá”, dijo. “Mi mamá y su mamá eran amigas y nos presentaron. El destino me dio la oportunidad de volverlo a intentar (en el amor), y él tuvo una conexión con mi hija que, hasta la fecha, cualquiera diría que no parece que no lleve su sangre”.
Ahora celebrando 15 años juntos, Alcántara dijo que están más enamorados que nunca. En 2013, nació su hija. Finalmente se casaron en 2018.
“Estoy agradecida con Dios por estos 15 años”, dijo.
Los dos han tenido sus altibajos, dijo Alcántara. Ella cita el respeto y la comunicación como la clave para su relación exitosa. Como ejemplo, cita eventos relacionados con el 14 de febrero de 2022, cuando a Alcántara le diagnosticaron cáncer de ovario. Se sometió a una cirugía al día siguiente y su esposo estuvo allí para ella en cada paso del camino.
“Él estaba allí sosteniendo mi mano, ayudándome a seguir siendo positiva antes de que salieran los resultados”, relató. “Afortunadamente, el cáncer no hizo metástasis y se quedó en el interior del tumor”.
La cirugía funcionó. La recuperación fue difícil, pero su esposo siempre estuvo a su lado, dijo Alcántara.
Su a otras parejas y a todos los que lean esto es aprovechar el tiempo que tenemos en la Tierra.
“Mi mensaje es que no desperdiciemos el regalo más preciado que nos ofrece la vida, que es el tiempo”, dijo.
