A holiday that’s observed in late April in Mexico has crossed borders and become a popular celebration among Hispanic families in the United States.
That holiday is Children’s Day. Observed on April 30 in Mexico (and at other times of the year in other countries, including United States), it seeks to recognize and honor the importance of children in society, promoting their well-being, happiness and development. For Mexican parents living in the United States, celebrating the day helps keep their roots and traditions alive while strengthening their children’s identity and sense of belonging in a multicultural environment.
There are many ways you can celebrate Children’s Day. Some of them include the following:
*Home escape room/mystery games: Design an escape room game at home, adapted to the age of your children, with riddles and challenges they must overcome together to “escape” from a room or solve a mystery. This will teach children to collaborate, listen to one another’s ideas, and think creatively and strategically to overcome challenges.
*Storybook creation: Encourage your children to write and illustrate stories. Creating storybooks will allow them to foster their creativity, imagination and storytelling skills. Afterward, they can combine all the stories into a book they can keep as a Children’s Day souvenir.
*Photo marathons: Organize a photo marathon, in which your children go around the neighborhood or city taking pictures of exciting sites or memorable moments. Participating in a photo marathon encourages children to observe their surroundings more closely, and appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of everyday details. And like the storybook creation idea, at the end of the activity, they can create an album or collage with the photos to remember the day.
*Time capsule creation: Invite your children to create a time capsule to store meaningful items connected to the present, then set a future date to open it and discover how they have changed over time. A time capsule provides the perfect opportunity for children to appreciate the importance of preserving memories.
*Talent night: Invite your children to participate in a talent night to showcase their artistic skills, such as singing, dancing, magic or telling jokes. Talent night allows children to discover and share their creative and expressive skills.
Hay muchas formas únicas de celebrar el Día del Niño
Una festividad que se celebra a finales de abril en México ha traspasado fronteras y se ha convertido en una celebración popular entre las familias hispanas de Estados Unidos.
Se trata del Día del Niño. Observado el 30 de abril en México (y en otras épocas del año en otros países, incluyendo Estados Unidos), busca reconocer y honrar la importancia de los niños en la sociedad, promoviendo su bienestar, felicidad y desarrollo. Para los padres mexicanos que viven en Estados Unidos, celebrar este día ayuda a mantener vivas sus raíces y tradiciones, al mismo tiempo que fortalece la identidad y el sentido de pertenencia de sus hijos en un ambiente multicultural.
Hay muchas maneras de celebrar el Día del Niño. Algunas de ellas son las siguientes:
*Cuarto de escape: Diseña un cuarto de escape en casa, adaptado a la edad de tus hijos, con acertijos y retos que deban superar juntos para “escapar” de una habitación o resolver un misterio. Este juego enseñará a los niños a colaborar, a escuchar las ideas de los demás y a pensar de forma creativa y estratégica para superar los retos.
*Creación de libros de cuentos: Anime a sus hijos a escribir e ilustrar historias. Crear libros de cuentos les permitirá fomentar su creatividad, imaginación y capacidad para contar historias. Después, pueden combinar todas las historias en un libro que podrán conservar como recuerdo del Día del Niño.
*Maratones de fotos: Organiza un maratón fotográfico, en el que tus hijos recorran el barrio o la ciudad fotografiando lugares emocionantes o momentos memorables. Participar en un maratón fotográfico anima a los niños a observar su entorno más de cerca y a apreciar la belleza y singularidad de los detalles cotidianos. Y como en la idea de crear un libro de cuentos, al final de la actividad pueden crear un álbum o collage con las fotos para recordar el día.
*Creación de una cápsula del tiempo: Invita a tus hijos a crear una cápsula del tiempo para guardar objetos significativos relacionados con el presente, y luego fija una fecha futura para abrirla y descubrir cómo han cambiado con el tiempo. Una cápsula del tiempo es la oportunidad perfecta para que los niños aprecien la importancia de conservar los recuerdos.
*Noche de talentos: Invite a sus hijos a participar en una noche de talentos para que muestren sus habilidades artísticas, como cantar, bailar, hacer magia o contar chistes. La noche de talentos permite a los niños descubrir y compartir sus habilidades creativas y expresivas.
