The world is facing an influenza outbreak

A Type A flu virus called H3N2 has shown an increase of cases in 2016. Statistics from the National Center for Health Statistics Mortality Surveillance System state that at the end of February nearly 7 percent of U.S. deaths were because of pneumonia and influenza. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently issued a report claiming that 33 states have widespread flu activity, including Kansas and Missouri.
In response to the outbreak, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recommended changes to the flu vaccine for this year.
“The recommendations are based on global surveillance of circulating influenza strains and on the effectiveness of the Northern Hemisphere vaccine for the 2015-2016 season,” the FDA stated recently in a press release.
H3N2 flu symptoms include a fever, coughing, a runny nose and body aches. In severe cases, there might be nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
If a person thinks he has influenza, he should visit his healthcare provider. Treatments for this type of influenza include antiviral medications and analgesics. To help prevent the virus from spreading, those who have it are advised to rest at home, wash their hands thoroughly and drink plenty of fluids.
