You do not need to be the boss of a company or a governmental body to be a leader. You can be one in your daily life.
Being a leader is not about job titles. It is about trust, gaining respect, and motivating and guiding a group of people to obtain good results.
A leader’s attitude and opinions should influence the behavior of the whole group and produce changes. A person can lead by his or her actions, too – what is known as leading by example.
Some of the following advice will help you to lead by example:
*Take responsibility: The best leaders in the world take the blame and forget about the credit. By doing this, they show humility and graciousness, thus building trust and minimizing conflicts among their followers.
*Create solutions and do not dwell on mistakes: Punishing your team members or harping on them for failures will only discourage them from trying – and might even turn them against you. Instead, you should lead by example by working with them to find solutions from any mistakes.
*Be sympathetic and empathetic: Try to listen and ask questions. Show you understand and care about what your team members are experiencing. You will receive far more than you give by implementing a healthy dialogue.
*Take care of yourself: If you do not take care of yourself, you cannot take care of your team. To take care of yourself, you must stay healthy. Balance is the key to doing that. To help you maintain your balance – and get better work results – take breaks from your projects. By doing so, you will encourage your team members to live mentally and physically balanced lives, too. Remember, a mentally and physically balanced team is a successful team.
*Show excellence: When you hold yourself to a high standard, your team members will try to gain your approval by doing the same. They will rise to your expectations of excellence, integrity and respect.
*Follow the same rules your team members do: You cannot expect others to follow the rules when you do not. Look closely at your own behavior, fix anything you are doing wrong and show others how they need to act.
¿Cómo liderar con el ejemplo?
No es necesario ser el jefe de una empresa o un organismo gubernamental para ser un líder. Puedes ser uno en tu vida diaria.
Ser un líder no se trata de títulos de trabajo. Se trata de confianza, ganar respeto, motivar y guiar a un grupo de personas para obtener buenos resultados.
La actitud y las opiniones de un líder deben influir en el comportamiento de todo el grupo y producir cambios. Una persona también puede liderar por sus acciones, lo que se conoce como liderar con el ejemplo.
Algunos de los siguientes consejos lo ayudarán a poder liderar con el ejemplo:
* Asumir la responsabilidad: los mejores líderes del mundo cargan con la culpa y se olvidan del crédito. Al hacer esto, muestran humildad y gracia, generando así confianza y minimizando los conflictos entre sus seguidores.
* Crea soluciones y no te detengas en los errores: castigar a los miembros de tu equipo o criticarlos por fallas sólo los desanimará de seguir intentándolo, e incluso podría ponerlos en tu contra. En cambio, es mejor liderar con el ejemplo trabajando con ellos para encontrar soluciones a cualquier error.
* Sea comprensivo y empático: intente escuchar y hacer preguntas. Demuestre que comprende y se preocupa por lo que los miembros de su equipo están experimentando. Recibirás mucho más de lo que das al implementar un diálogo saludable.
* Cuídate: si no te cuidas, no puedes cuidar a tu equipo. Para cuidarse, debe mantenerse saludable. El equilibrio es la clave para hacer eso. Para ayudarlo a mantener el equilibrio y obtener mejores resultados laborales, tome descansos de sus proyectos. Al hacerlo, alentará a los miembros de su equipo a vivir vidas equilibradas mental y físicamente también. Recuerde, un equipo equilibrado mental y físicamente es un equipo exitoso.
* Muestra excelencia: cuando te mantienes en un alto estándar, los miembros de tu equipo tratarán de obtener tu aprobación haciendo lo mismo. Su equipo se elevará al nivel de sus expectativas de excelencia, integridad y respeto.
* Sigue las mismas reglas que los miembros de tu equipo: no puedes esperar que otros sigan las reglas cuando no lo haces. Observe de cerca su propio comportamiento, arregle todo lo que está haciendo mal y muéstreles a los demás cómo deben actuar.
