Kansas City PBS recently announced that “We Are Latinos,” an exploration of the Kansas City area’s Latino culture, will have an October premiere online and on television.
Produced by Victor Antillanca, “We Are Latinos” will be available to view as three short documentaries online at flatlandkc.org, with a compilation broadcast set for 7 p.m. Oct. 20 on Kansas City PBS.
“I wanted to tell these stories so my daughters, when they grow up, get to know about our culture,” Antillanca was quoted in a press release as saying.
“We Are Latinos” will include profiles of artists, athletes, entrepreneurs and immigrants. Those whose stories will be told include Jenny Mendez, cultural arts director at the Mattie Rhodes Center in Kansas City, Missouri; Kiki, a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program recipient who came to the area from Mexico at age 7; and Pistol Pete, a second-generation, Mexican-American rapper and area native.
Kliff Kuehl, president and CEO of Kansas City PBS, said he is excited for the community to see the documentary.
“It’s an authentic, honest and visually arresting celebration of the Kansas City Latino community,” Kuehl was quoted in a press release as saying.
