In this edition we will talk about the most populated metropolis in the world, known as the Greater Tokyo Area. We are talking about Japan, capital of one of the most important economic powers. The Greater Tokyo Area is located on the main island of the Japanese archipelago named Honshu. And why is it the most populated in the world? Possibly because it is divided into 26 cities. Of which the main one is Tokyo, from which it gets the same name. The population the area, exceeds 35 million habitants.
Well we already know that it is a huge metropolis and that it is a world power. But, what makes it a tourist attraction? The most remarkable thing is the great fusion of the ultramodern and the highly traditional Japanese culture. A mix between huge skyscrapers with colored lights and temples, and shrines that date back more than 1300 years. With many museums including those related to art, history, science and animation.
The cost of the airplane will depend a bit of from where you want to travel. But you can find prices ranging from $400 to $1,000. The average price of a hotel is $100 per night.
We could write books of the places to visit in Tokyo, but I’ll tell you about some of the most popular and prettiest:
Discover the SkyTree tower. Besides being the tallest tower in the world and the third tallest building, it has an excellent restaurant and enviable viewpoints. Undoubtedly the best place to appreciate the beauty of the big city. There are packages designed for tourists, to get through a fast line, ranging from $22 to $35. The time that you can spend in the tour of the tower is unlimited, so I advice that if you like the sunsets take some time and enjoy this beautiful experience from above.
Visit the Ghibli Museum, designed by one of the best Japanese animation directors, Hayao Miyasaki. In each one of its buildings, this museum tries to immerse its visitors in the stories of all the films and make them feel as the protagonist of them. It is undoubtedly one of the museums that the little ones will enjoy the most, and also some of the big dreamers too. The museum has permanent exhibitions, exhibitions for a limited time and a cinema with exclusive short films created by Miyasaki. Tickets must be purchased in advance at any of the Lawson stores. If purchased from abroad, you should buy them online by the JTB agency. Admission prices range from $15 for children to $120 for adults.
Enjoy the Meiji Jingu Shrine, undoubtedly one of the most popular modern sanctuaries in Japan, built in honor of Emperor Meiji and his wife. Finished in 1921, the sanctuary is located in the heart of Tokyo in a forest of 120,000 trees of different species and next to Yoyogi Park, one of the most popular in the country. You can enjoy a warm walk through its natural spaces. If you go on a weekend you will surely get to experience a traditional Shinto wedding. Buy an amulet, enjoy its beautiful architecture, and experience all this without having to pay for admission as it has a totally free access.
Another incredible place of free access and definitely unmissable, is the temple of Sensoji, the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo. It was built in the seventh century. As the popularity of the complex grew, the amount of buildings also did. Discover the huge door of thunder, guarded by dragon gods. When you cross the door you will find Nakamise Street, with almost 100 stores selling souvenirs, souvenirs, kimonos and various food products of the region. After this street, there is a 5-story pagoda, which preserves the mortuary tablets of thousands of families. In addition to some of the best works of art of the temple, the main hall Hondo has several statues of Buddhist deities. And you can also find another large number of pagodas and secondary rooms.

Conoce Tokio
Bienvenidos turistas, en esta edición nos toca hablar de la metrópolis más poblada del mundo conocida como el Área del Gran Tokio. Capital de una de las potencias económicas más importantes del mundo, claro nos referimos a Japón. El Área del Gran Tokio está ubicada en la isla principal del archipiélago japonés que tiene el nombre de Honshu. ¿Y por qué es la más poblada del mundo? Muy posiblemente porque está dividida en 26 ciudades, de las cuales la principal es Tokio de la cual obtiene el mismo nombre. La población que reside en esta área supera los 35 millones de habitantes.
Bueno ya sabemos que es una enorme metrópolis y que es potencia mundial, pero ¿Qué tiene además de eso como atractivo turístico?. Lo más destacable es la gran fusión de lo ultramoderno y lo sumamente tradicional de la cultura japonesa. Una mezcla entre enormes rascacielos con luces de colores y con templos y santuarios que datan de hace más de 1300 años. Con gran cantidad de museos de arte, historia, ciencia, animación entre muchos otros.
El costo del avión dependerá un poco del lugar del que desees viajar, pero podrás encontrar precios que van desde los $400 hasta los $1,000. Los costos de los hoteles en promedio son de $100 por noche.

Conoce la torre SkyTree, es la torre más alta del mundo además de ser el tercer edificio más alto del mundo, cuenta con un excelente restaurante y unos envidiables miradores. Sin duda el mejor lugar para poder apreciar a todo su esplendor la belleza de la gran ciudad. Existen paquetes de fila rápida para turistas que van de los $22 a los $35. El tiempo que puedes durar en tu recorrido por la torre es ilimitado, así que te recomiendo que si te gustan los atardeceres hagas algo de tiempo en la misma para poder disfrutar de esta bella experiencia desde las alturas.

Disfruta del Santuario Meiji Jingu, sin duda uno de los santuarios modernos más populares de todo Japón, construido en honor al emperador Meiji y a su esposa. Terminó de construirse en 1921, el santuario está situado en pleno centro de Tokio en un bosque de 120,000 árboles de diferentes especies y a lado del parque Yoyogi uno de los más populares en todo el país. Podrás disfrutar de un cálido paseo por sus espacios naturales, si vas en fin de semana muy seguramente te tocará disfrutar de una tradicional boda sintoísta, comprar algún amuleto, disfrutar de su hermosa arquitectura, y sin tener que pagar boletos de entrada ya que es totalmente gratis su acceso.
Otro increíble lugar de acceso gratuito y definitivamente imperdible es el templo de Sensoji, el más antiguo templo budista de Tokio. Se dice que fue construido en el siglo VII, conforme fue subiendo su popularidad en el lugar fue creciendo la cantidad de edificaciones que conforman todo el complejo del templo. Conoce la enorme puerta de los truenos, resguardada por dioses dragones. Al cruzar la puerta encontrarás la calle Nakamise, con casi 100 tiendas que venden recuerdos, souvenirs, kimonos y varios productos alimenticios de la región. Después de esta calle, se encuentra la pagoda de 5 pisos, que conserva las tablillas mortuorias de miles de familias. El salón principal Hondo, con varias estatuas de deidades budistas, además de algunas de las mejores obras de arte del templo. Y así puedes encontrar otra gran cantidad de pagodas y salones secundarios.
Te recomiendo que si no dominas el idioma japonés contrates un guía privado, los costos por el guía van de los $250 a los $300 por 8 horas de recorrido y pueden asistir de 1 a 6 personas al tour por el mismo costo, así que te conviene contratarlo si van más de 2 personas, algunos pasan directo a tu hotel y tienen flexibilidad para que decidas que puntos de la ciudad conocer, ten en cuenta qué deberás pagar además de tus entradas a los sitios también las del guía. Te recomiendo que cambies una buena cantidad de dólares a yenes, unidad monetaria de Japón, ya que no todos los establecimientos aceptan dólares o tarjetas. Sólo me queda decirte que investigues por tu parte de muchos más sitios para conocer en Tokio, lánzate a la aventura y disfruta, saludos y buen viaje.
