If you are not sure about what to do after graduating, you should get advice from your parents, teachers, and counselors. Spend time with people who work in areas that interest you to find out what you need to do to be successful. Then, make a list of your skills and work life in a curriculum vitae to submit when you apply for a job.
If you are a young male, something you should know is that registering for the Selective Service is the law, and you must do so within 30 days before turning 18. If going to college is in your future, remember that registering in the Selective Service is a requirement to receive Guaranteed Student PLUS Loans and obtain the scholarships Pell Grants and College Work-Study.
Registration is also necessary to participate in federal job training programs and to be able to work in the executive branch of the federal government and in the US postal service.
In fact, registering is the only path to citizenship for men who emigrated to the United States before turning 26 years old. If you do not register you can be fined up to $250,000 and you could spend time in jail for up to five years.
Luckily, registering is easy. As a student, you can get help from the scholar registration. You can also register by checking a box on the FAFSA form; you can do it by mail or in a post office.You can also register online, either using a computer or a smartphone. If you do not have a Social Security number and you are an immigrant male (either documented or undocumented) between 18 and 25 years of age you can get a registration form at a post office or Download the Selective Service form that appears in www.sss.gov/Portals/0/PDFs/regform_copyINT.pdf.
